Off-Campus/Commuting Students

If you are planning to live off campus, please visit the Parking and Transportation website and click on Buy Permits Now to purchase a permit. Freshman commuters (commuter students with less than 30 earned credits) and non-degree students are only eligible to purchase an overflow
permit. Review the parking regulations to make sure you understand where your parking areas are located and obtain your permit prior to the first day of classes. Permits must be purchased online.

On-Campus Resident Students

Freshman on-campus residents (resident students with less than 30 earned credits) are only eligible to purchase a West Village Resident parking permit. Please note that the number of permits available to freshman residents is limited. All students should review the parking regulations to make sure you understand where your parking areas are located. Individuals who are unable to purchase a parking permit may not have a vehicle on campus. Those who violate this restriction may be subject to parking citations, towing and referral to the Office of Student Conduct and Civility Education.

General Parking Information

  • Beginning with the 2011-2012 academic year, parking permits are virtual. You will not receive a hangtag to display in your vehicle. Your license plate will be scanned to verify you have a valid permit. Please visit the Parking and Transportation website to ensure your vehicle license plate information is correct and to learn more about virtual permits.
  • All vehicles parked on campus from 6 a.m.–8 p.m., Monday–Thursday, and 6 a.m.–3 p.m. on Friday must have a valid parking permit or must use a designated visitor or metered parking space. Parking regulations are in effect to help ensure safe and adequate
parking for the entire campus community. Vehicles parked in violation of regulations may be issued a citation and may be towed from campus.
  • Parking regulations are subject to change. To view the current regulations, visit the Parking and Transportation website.
  • Permits are not required in most lots on weekends or on official university holidays when the campus is closed. Signs at each lot will indicate restrictions.
  • If your vehicle is not registered in the state of Maryland, the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration requires the purchase of a Nonresident Permit for vehicles registered in other states when the driver of the vehicle is a student attending a school in Maryland for a period in excess of 30 days. As a convenience, students can purchase Nonresident Permits at the Auxiliary Services Business Office in the University Union 110. Students
must bring a photocopy of their driver’s license, student ID and vehicle registration card.
