What surprised you about Towson University?
"How easy it is to get involved! I thought it might be challenging as a commuter student, but it wasn’t. I’ve gotten to know my professors well, and have really enjoyed my classes. I've even found time to start a club soccer team and be the president of the Wall $treet Investment Club."

How did you start the Club Soccer Team?
"I have always loved the sport. When I came to Towson University, there wasn’t a club soccer team. At LeaderShape (a leadership conference for TU students), I said I would start a team. I got a few friends who shared my interest and passion and then went to the Sport Clubs Office and the rest is history. We’ve traveled to Clemson, S.C., and Erie, Pa., for tournaments and just competed in our first regional tournament. It’s been great seeing our small club of 10 players grow to more than 100."

Kon playing SoccerHave you had an internship at TU?
"Yes, I have actually had two internships. I’m currently working at Smith Barney in Hunt Valley with a team of financial advisers. Last year I worked at Legg Mason, learning the operational side of business with their financial software team. The university, and a little networking, has really helped me get real world experience."

Did your classes prepare you for these internships?

"Yes. One of my projects at Smith Barney is to improve the Web site and online marketing strategy. I brought skills to this work that I learned in my e-business class at Towson with Professor Larry Burgee."

What would you say to somebody who's considering studying business?

"If you enjoy getting things done, working with people, overcoming challenges, and using your creativity and imagination, then I recommend studying business."

What do you do with the Wall $treet Investment Club?
"We invest money into various stocks on behalf of the Towson University Foundation–and we do it well! It’s a great learning experience to actually see our portfolio grow over the course of the year. Recently we traveled to New York City and visited the New York Stock Exchange and the NYMEX."

Do you have any advice for new students?
"If you want to be a leader, then take the time at Towson University to develop your leadership skills. Be proactive and don’t wait for opportunity–create it!"
