The To-Do List information below is for students entering fall 2011. Information for students entering fall 2012 will be available in mid-April.
Placement testing is mandatory for some incoming students. Based on
your academic records, you may be required to complete one or more of
the CollegeBoard’s ACCUPLACER® tests which will assess your basic skills
in reading, writing and/or mathematics. If testing is required a “needs
placement testing” message will be posted on your online student account
To-Do List and you will receive additional information by letter.
The placement testing notification letter:
- will be sent only to students who are required to test based on academic
information available as of the date the letter is mailed. You are
responsible for submitting documentation for any updated academic
scores or transfer credits that can qualify you for exemption from
placement testing.
- will include instructions about on-campus testing dates or testing at a
pre-approved, off-campus location
- will inform you as to the test battery or batteries to be taken
The ACCUPLACER® test batteries:
- assess the basic skills of reading, writing and/or mathematics
- will determine if refresher course(s) are needed
- are mandatory for all incoming students who do not qualify for any exemption
- exemptions are based on academic records that have been submitted to
Towson University such as:
- SAT scores (500 or above exempts for each skill)
- ACT scores (21 or above exempts for each skill)
- transfer of a freshman English composition course equivalent to TU’s
ENGL 102
- transfer of a college-level mathematics course
- university acceptance of 30 or more transfer credits
- college credits earned through AP or IB test scores
Placement test results:
- will appear on the computer screen at the end of the test
- will be included in an ACCUPLACER® score report given to the student
by the test administrator
Placement requirements must be completed within the first two
terms of enrollment at TU. More information, including exemption
details, is available from the Placement Testing Office in the Academic Achievement Center.
