If you have been living in the U.S. less than five years and your native language is not English you are eligible and required to take the Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) Exam (Section 3 of our application). The TOEFL exam measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings.
A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 500 for paper-based or 173 for computer-based is required for all non-native English speakers and have resided in the United States for less than five years. TOEFL will be waived if a student has scored at least 470 on the verbal section of the SAT I or completed a freshman composition course at a recognized U.S. post-secondary institution with at least a grade of C. Applicants who score less than 500 paper-based or 173 computer-based on the TOEFL should apply to Towson's English Language Center.
