Towson announces winners of President’s Diversity Awards

Student, faculty, staff and departments honored for fostering awareness, inclusiveness at TU

TOWSON, Md. (March 3, 2011)—Towson University will recognize a student, faculty and staff members, and an administrative and academic department for their excellent work in support of advancing the university’s commitment to diversity. Awards were presented at a lunch ceremony during TU’s 2011 Multicultural Conference held Thursday, March 3.

The President’s Diversity Awards recognize individuals and departments that have made efforts to foster greater awareness, understanding and advancement of diversity and inclusiveness at TU.

Through this recognition the campus community is encouraged to sustain change that focuses on the strengthening of student intellectual and social development; the purposeful development and utilization of organizational resources to enhance student learning; the enhanced awareness of and appreciation for the variety of backgrounds, perspectives and beliefs held by members of the TU community; and the establishment and maintenance of a welcoming campus environment that engages all of its diversity in service to students and organizational learning.

“All of the nominees for this year’s President’s Diversity Awards—not just those ultimately selected as winners—demonstrated superb work in support of advancing diversity at Towson,” says President Robert L. Caret. "When members of our campus community come together to work collaboratively toward a common goal, great things happen.”
