Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Student Development
Mentorship Program
New to campus? Want to become involved in the Towson LGBT
community? Feeling stressed about coming out? Questioning your
sexuality? Find help with our Mentorship Program.
What is the Mentorship Program?
The Mentorship Program is for lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, and questioning students on campus who would like to
talk with a trained, knowledgeable peer about different issues or
concerns in their life.
The program is run by students for students. We promote the
success and wellness of Towson's LGBT community.
What can a mentor do for me?
A mentor can share his or her experience in being an active
person in the LGBT community. They can give you insight on
troubling situations that you may face concerning your sexuality and
personal identity.
To start with a mentor, please contact the Mentor Program at
towsonlgbtmentor@gmail.com. We will set up an intake interview to get
to know a little bit about you and find out what you want to
gain from a mentor relationship. Then we can pair you with the
mentor that will be most beneficial to your needs. After you and
your mentor get in contact, you will meet and talk, discuss
concerns, and go to LGBT and Queer Student Union events
together. At the end, we will see if we accomplished the goals
we wished to meet from the mentorship.
Meet the Mentors....
Hello future mentees! My name is Tia and I now identify as a Transensual Lesbian Femme. I am a friend, daughter, sister, gay mother, and a transgender ally. I look at myself as the realistic cloud over everyone's life: I answer questions with truth, be positive while being honest, and love having opinionated conversations. I laugh, I cry, I'm hard, I'm soft, and I try to handle life as it comes at me. Live Love Learn Laugh.
Hi, my name is Jim and I am new to Towson and the Queer Community. I am interested in disability issues. I am outgoing and easy to talk to. If you see me on campus, feel free to say hi!
Hey all, I am Adrienne. I am a lesbian, genderqueer, androgynous, libertarian-socialist, longboarding, mohawked, crazy individual. I'm a psychology and criminal justice major with an minor in LGBT studies. If I could be attached to anything for life, it would be the constitution. I do not know you (yet), but I will probably love you. I make lots of jokes with puns. Keep it sexy.
Hello World! I'm Erisel Cruz and I love people. I'm a compassionate workaholic, who, true to contradiction, is also very lazy. I'm a Jackie-of-all-Trades, so I know a bit of everything. I try to be as honest as possible, which sometimes can be brutal even though I do practice tact as often as possible. And that's me. With love, Erisel
Hi! My name is Sarah. I'm queer. Its nice to meet you. I'm a sociology and psychology major and an LGBT minor. I laugh too loud and too often. I'm an activist and I probably care a little too much about things I'm involved in (especially the mentor program). When I'm not at school, I'm working at the Towson Fund, or driving around aimlessly with my friends. In fact, we saw a meteor shower the other day! Lets see...what else...I'm a pisces, and therefore I'm indecisive, sorry in advance about that. I dont' know what else to say, but its nice to meet you, person who's readign this! If you see me around, say hi! :) Sarah
Hello, I'm Sniggy (Latoya) and I'm socially awkward. I'm actually all around awkward, I try not to be, but I fail every time. I do some things and some stuff, but I have to say that I'm only really good at putting how I feel down on paper i.e. writing. I am a developing Humanist, but I realize that most people don't see things the way I do. I try not to be a conformist, but I don't know how I'm doing with that. I love people, I love peace, I love fun, I love....
Hi! My name is Mia. I am a sophomore Elementary Education and Special Education major and Spanish minor. I am a huge ally of the LGBT community and am involved in the Queer Student Union, SpeakOUT: LGBT Speakers Bureau, and the PRIDE LGBT Mentor Program. I love art, activism, culture, language and mentoring!
Hi! My name is Carrie. I am a sophomore at Towson University. I am a painting major and an LGBT Studies minor. I enjoy singing showtunes at the top of my lungs, meeting new people, blowing bubbles and making people laugh. Even though I'm just a sophomore, I'm involved on campus especially with QSU and the LGBT community. In the future, I hope to be happily settled in as an Art professor in an adorable college town enjoying my long fought for rights as a queer woman.
Hola! My name is Phylicia! I'm a Sociology & Women's Studies Major and I like to change the world like most sociology majors. I like listening to music and being active in my community. I'm big into anything dealing with social justice issues. Say hi to me when you see me around campus!
