INTERNATIONAL ADMISSIONS

Undergraduate Admissions Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Application

General Information

To be considered for admission to Towson, international undergraduate students must prove they have completed a full secondary school program and received a leaving/graduation certificate that allows them to pursue university studies in their home country. Because admission to Towson is competitive, only those students with a strong academic record are admitted. Meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee entry to Towson.

All documents and academic records submitted with an application must be translated into English and notarized. An admission decision will not be made until all required materials are received.

IMPORTANT: Students who are awaiting their final exam results must submit their secondary school course-by-course transcripts which record marks earned from the past three years. Original transcripts or certified true copies are required. Students who have completed and earned either the Abitur, Avgångsbetyg, Baccalauréate, Diploma di Maturita, GCE Advanced Level, International Baccalauréate, Sijil Tinggi Peperiksaan Malaysia, Studentereksamen, Vitnemål with bestått, studieretning for allmenne fag or Ylioppilastutkinto may be eligible for advanced standing depending on the subject, level and grade.

Transfer of Credits

Advanced standing for course work completed at other post-secondary institutions is determined by an official Evaluation of Transfer Credit made by Towson University. Applicants must understand that if they accept an offer of admission, they must also accept the procedure used by the university to evaluate their previous course work. The university may require applicants to obtain a detailed (course-by-course) evaluation of their previous course work from an independent credential evaluation agency. Applicants are responsible for paying any fees charged by such agencies. The university often refers applicants to: World Education Services, P.O. Box 745, Old Chelsea Station, New York, NY 10113-0745, USA; telephone: 212-966-6311; http://www.wes.org/.

To receive advanced standing for course work earned outside of the United States, applicants must complete university-level courses taught at institutions approved by the Ministry of Education of that country. Courses must be equal in content and quality to those offered at Towson University and must be completed at a level above the minimum passing grade. Applicants may be required to submit course descriptions at any time during the evaluation process. Final evaluations will not be made until the applicant has submitted an Enrollment Contract.

Towson University has transfer agreements with the following institutions:

College of the Bahamas, The Bahamas
HELP Institute, Malaysia - course equivalencies
INTI College, Malaysia - course equivalencies
Kolej Damansara Utama, Malaysia - course equivalancies
Taylors College, Malaysia - course equivalencies
Japan College of Foreign Languages, Japan
Merkantilt Forum Academics, Denmark

A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 500 for paper-based or 173 for computer-based or 61 for internet-based is required for all non-native English speakers. TOEFL will be waived if a student has scored at least 470 on the verbal section of the SAT I or completed a freshman composition course at a recognized U.S. post-secondary institution with at least a grade of C. Applicants who score less than 500 paper-based or 173 computer-based on the TOEFL should apply to Towson's English Language Center.
