Human Resource Development (M.S.)

The Master of Science in Human Resource Development (HRD) is an interdisciplinary program designed to provide professional knowledge and practical skills related to human resource development, management and leadership. Students have the opportunity to individualize course work to satisfy personal and professional goals. Candidates select one of two tracks and work with advisers to identify electives relevant to their professional goals.

The program employs faculty members who have years of experience, as well as faculty with strong research agendas in human resources and education. Many of our faculty members continue to work in the field while sharing their management and leadership experiences with students. Our faculty members are superb advisers and mentors who can help each student develop an individualized program for such positions as human resources generalist; specialist in benefits, recruiting, or training and development; personnel supervisor; instructional supervisor; or school-based administrator.

Students select one of two tracks. Select the link to read more about each program:

  • Educational Leadership – the Educational Leadership track is for certified teachers and other licensed professionals working in schools who aspire to become educational leaders and administrators at local and state levels. The program is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) for those seeking certification as Administrator I, meeting all required state and national standards.
  • Professional – the Professional track is a good choice for a mid-career professional looking for professional development and career advancement opportunities, or a person wanting to enter the human resources field. Prior work experience in human resources is not required for admission. The Professional track is the only such program in Baltimore.
