Professional Background

I have 20 years of healthcare management experience as a corporate strategist, at systems in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland.  My most rewarding professional experience was being a key member of an executive management team responsible for analyzing and implementing three-way, full asset merger proceedings, including negotiating position, community benefit, clinical integration, and state and federal filing procedures.  The new entity is now called KaleidaHealth, in Buffalo, New York.

I have extensive knowledge and experience in strategic planning, organizational change, new service development, service line analysis, feasibility studies, project management, and budgeting/cost analysis (are you still awake?).  Oh yes - also office politics, the art of schmooze, and how to be the first to pilfer office furniture when someone resigns…

My Thoughts on Teaching

I believe learning should be fun - if it's not fun, why do it?

Personal

I love to fish for pike and (monster) muskie, although sometimes I like to fish like Henry Ford and not use any bait(!).  I also LOVE boating, scuba diving and pretty much all water-related sports/activities.  I am currently working on becoming an established color pencil artist, and hope to sell my wares on street corners when I retire.  My main objective in life at the moment is trying to stay sane with my 3 year old son and 2 year old boy/girl twins.

I am a two-time triathlete, terrible saxophone player, Stephen Colbert groupie, and diehard Bears fan (long live Ditka!).  I once jumped out of a plane with a flimsy parachute and hyperventilated during the entire free fall. I am afraid of spiders.  I love learning new things and trying to outsmart my husband, who, much to my chagrin, is a useless-trivia king.  An example of my useless trivia facts?  Apparently the guy who played Fraiser’s father on the TV show used to be a JCAHO surveyor; he was bored with his life (go figure!) and decided to take an acting class….  I am a much better person for knowing this.
