Fall 2008 Health Fair - HLTH 430 Class

This semester's health fair, which took place on October 21st and 22nd, was an outstanding success. Twenty students in Dr. Jackson's HLTH 430 class, "Organization, Implementation, and Management of Health Education Programs" worked in teams of 4 to develop booths to address various health topics. The teams educated nearly 200 7th-grade students at Dumbarton Middle School about Stress, Sleep, Exercise and Fitness, Food-borne Illness, and Alcohol Use Prevention. This effort continues to be an exceptional partnership between the health teachers at DMS and the Towson University Department of Health Science. Way to go!!

TU Students Attend 10th Annual Health Education Summit in Washington, D.C.

Students spent March 3-5, 2007 at the 10th Annual Health Education Summit in Washington, D.C., where presentations were given by the director of CDC's National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Senator Kennedy's chief health staffer, and the director of CDC's REACH program.
The trip also included visits to Capitol Hill where students discussed important health issues with Congressional staff members. This year, they met Senator Cardin, who joined them for a group photo.
The program was a wonderful learning experience as well as a unique opportunity to talk with government officials.
