Health Science Major

Dual School and Community Health Education

This major combines both community and school health education components.

Students who choose to pursue both concentrations of this major, School Health and Community Health, will develop competencies necessary to an effective health educator in the schools and in the community.  They will complete course requirements for both concentrations and will be certified to teach grades 5 through 12 in Maryland public schools.  The semester capstone fieldwork experience will be split between a placement within the Maryland public schools and a community health field placement. 

Completing the Praxis I exam is one of several requirements for the School Health concentration and should be completed in the academic year before candidates begin student teaching. The Praxis II exam must be completed before the end of student teaching experience. Similar to other students admitted to teacher education programs at Towson University, dual concentration majors must undergo speech and hearing screening and are required to complete a Criminal Background Disclosure Form. This form is to be notarized and sent to the director of the Center for Professional Practice.
