Requirements for Major and Minor in Geography
Geography Major
A number of subject area concentrations are available within the major, including physical/environmental geography, planning, urban studies, and GIS. Also available are double majors in geography/economics, geography/political science, geography/sociology and anthropology.
Geography majors must complete a minimum of 39 semester hours in geography courses. Of these 39 hours, 18 hours of core courses are required plus 6 hours of group courses. The remaining 15 hours in the major are selected from geography electives at the 200-400 level, reflecting the student's areas of interest (a maximum of 6 of these credits may be at the 200 level).
Geography majors may transfer up to 12 hours toward a major and must earn 21 upper-division credits at Towson. Geography minors may transfer up to 6 hours toward a minor and must earn 12 upper-division credits at Towson.

Group Courses (6 credits)
One upper-division techniques course and one regional course are required.
Electives (15 credits)
Electives must taken at the 200-400 level, but only 6 credits may come from 200-level courses.
Geography Minor
For a minor in geography, a minimum of 21 semester hours of geography credits is required. Six of these credits must be at the 100 and 200 course levels, and 12 at the 300 and 400 levels.
