As an MGP partner, the Department of Mathematics at Towson University hosts and directs a six-week summer program for 40 selected students from Calverton. The students spend the first five weeks on the Towson University campus, and they spend the last week at Northbay Camp. This math-focused program supports promising rising 7th, 8th, and 9th graders in their academic endeavors by offering an enrichment program during the summer, and followed by weekly school-year programming for 7th and 8th graders. The relationship between Towson University's Department of Mathematics and the Middle Grades Partnership has helped MGP define and refine its mathematics curricular and assessment goals as the program expands and evolves. The Department of Mathematics has assisted in professional development for all MGP mathematics teachers in the summer and school year, and continues to advise MGP leadership about pedagogy, curriculum content, and teacher quality.
