Fundraiser offers a great time, supports a great cause
What? Fourth Annual Wellness Center Silent Auction
When? Thursday, May 24, 5 to 8 p.m. (Final Bid social)
Where? Administration Building's 7720 Café
Why?This is a once-a-year chance to bid on a huge variety of donated goods, from restaurant gift certificates to sports memorabilia. Auction proceeds will help the center to purchase new exercise equipment and fund educational programming.
How? Tickets are $2 at the door (advance tickets are available at the center). Admission includes dinner catered by Q'doba, free beverages, door prizes and live music.

Towson University Considers Smoke-Free Campus

Reporter Gigi Barnett spoke to Donna Cox, director, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Abuse Prevention Center, about TU’s decision to consider becoming a smoke-free campus. “It’s easy to say 40 campuses nationwide do it,” said Cox, a member of the committee researching the ban. “They could be small institutions. We’re a very big campus. It’s a big issue to address.”
Taxes hang over winnings

With the Preakness just around the corner, Seth Hammer, Department of Accounting, offered tax advice on a silver lining for unlucky gamblers: offset winnings with losses over the course of a year. Hammer said the only way to deduct gambling losses is to itemize. “If they don’t itemize, they are stuck,” he added.
