Pro lacrosse coming to TU

Bayhawks to play home games

at Unitas Stadium

The Baltimore Bayhawks have migrated to TU, bringing with them a sure-to-be-thrilling season of Major League Lacrosse. The team will face the Boston Cannons Thursday, May 27, at 7:30 p.m. at Johnny Unitas Stadium in the first of six home games to be played on campus.

The move, announced March 10 at a campus news conference, puts the Bayhawks in one of the largest outdoor venues in the Baltimore metropolitan region, outranked only by M&T Bank Stadium and Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

“Unitas Stadium is one of the newest and best-designed facilities for lacrosse in greater Baltimore,” says Eric Rhew, the team's publicist. “We're pleased to be able to share it with Towson's football, men's and women's lacrosse, and field hockey teams.”

President Robert L. Caret says of the new relationship, “It's terrific for the university, for Baltimore's ardent lacrosse fans, and especially for the Bayhawks. It's great for the Towson area, too. Fans are going to love it here--thousands of them, I hope.

“We'll be the most hospitable hosts we can be, and I plan to be a fan.”

The Bayhawks finished the 2003 season with an 8-5 record.
