Scholarship Opportunities This is a link to a list of scholarship opportunities put together by a colleague.  It is critical that you check the information and be aware that the deadlines listed are probably old but they might reflect the time of year (rather than the specific date) application materials are due.
 
DARTMOUTH IGERT  Seeking applicants for their NSF Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program in Polar Environmental Change.  Applicants should visit the Dartmouth IGERT website for information on participating departments, requirements, and application procedures:  www.dartmouth.edu/~igert/
 
International Erosion Control Association  The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association is awarding annual scholarships to students enrolled in four-year colleges and universities and who are considering careers in erosion and sediment control industry or related field.  Eligible sophomores, juniors or seniors should apply. The application instructions and forms can be downloaded from the following website:  http://www.macieca.org/  Deadline for applications is Friday, December 11, 2009.

NASA MUST Scholarship Program supports the best and the brightest students in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) disciplines during the early years of their college education.  Tuition/stipend available. Scholars participate in exciting research opportunities at NASA Centers.  Students from underrepresented groups in STEM are encouraged to apply.  Deadline is March 1st.
 
Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship ProgramThe Hollings Scholarship Program will provide successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to a maximum of $8,000 per year) for full-time study during the 9-month academic year; a 10-week, full-time internship position ($650/week) during the summer at a NOAA facility; and, if reappointed, academic assistance (up to a maximum of $8,000) for full-time study during a second 9-month academic year.   Deadline for applications is February 8th
 

Towson University Alumni Association Graduate Fellow 

The purpose of the Graduate Fellowship is to recognize, encourage, and reward graduate students who demonstrate the highest levels of academic and personal achievement and have the potential to be an active alumni who will support Towson University and contribute to his/her community.  Follow the link for application details, packets and contact information.  Deadline for application is June 15th 

American Philosophical Society Fellowship and Research Grants has available a small research grant for field research and research travel, available for GRADUATE STUDENTS and junior faculty.  Deadline is March 15th
William Donald Schaffer Scholarship is for full-time degree seeking undergraduate and graduate students who are accepted for admission or are currently enrolled at an eligible institution in Maryland that offers courses of study, training, or other educational activities that are designed to prepare individuals for a career in public service.  Application deadline is July 1st.
 
Goldwater Scholarships are nationally competitive scholarships.  Students o apply during their sophomore or junior years for support during their junior and senior years.  These scholarships are for students  who are planning to go onto graduate study and who plan on pursuing a research career.  Every year there is another round of applications.  The application consists of several essays.  Need to inform your faculty representative of your intent to apply in the fall of the year.. Udall Scholarships are nationally competitive scholarships.   Students are eligible to apply during their sophomore or junior years for support during their junior and senior years.  These scholarships are restricted to highly motivated students  who are interested in environmental policy.  Every year there is another round of applications.   Need to inform your faculty representative of your intent to apply in the fall of the year....See the link for details. 
 
GRO (Greater Research Opportunities) Graduate Fellowships from EPA for masters level students in environmentally related fields.  The deadline for receipt of pre-applications is normally in late November.
 
Sigma Xi, An International Scientific Research Society, sponsors research and supports grants for undergraduates and graduates.  The grants-in-aid of research programs funds grants that range from a few hundred dollars to $1,000.  Students can apply online and are asked to review the General Information and Eligibility Requirements also online.  The application deadline is March 15 and October 15 annually.
 
The Nature Conservancy has a variety of grant programs that will support ecological field research on rare plants and animals and unique natural communities.  See the link for more details.
 
Budweiser Conservation Scholarship Program is a collaboration between the National Fish and Wildlife Federation and Anheuser-Busch.  This competitive scholarship program to support undergraduate and graduate students whose innovative studies respond to today's conservation issues.  These issues include  the sustainable use of natural resources, recovery of endangered species, and control of invasive exotic species. The application deadline is April 16, 2007.
 
 The National Wildlife Federation provides fellowships for graduates and undergraduates interested in enhancing the environment.  Fellows receive a grant, project support, recognition for their accomplishments and other benefits.  See site for more details.  Deadlines are usually in December.  Check link for details..

National Wildlife Refuge System Centennial Scholarship Program is a competitive scholarship program that awards ten scholarships to a student majoring in environmental science, natural resource management, biology, public policy, education, geography, political science, or related disciplines.  See site for more details.
 
The Jess and  Mildred Fisher College of  Science  and Mathematics Undergraduate Research Grant was created for FCSM students who are applying for University Undergraduate Research Funds.  These students may also apply to the FCSM Undergraduate Research Committee if the budget required for the research project exceeds the $500.00 limit of the FCSM program. The Fisher Travel Grant was created to assist undergraduates in travel expenses associated with attending a professional meeting at which the student will present an oral seminar or a research poster
 
National Network for Environmental Management and Studies Fellowship.   EPA established the National Network for Environmental Management Studies (NNEMS) in 1986 to foster a growing interest among higher education students in environmental careers. The NNEMS program is a comprehensive fellowship program that provides undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to participate in a fellowship project that is directly related to their field of study.  Deadline for this year's applications is January 29, 2007
