Bio

 

Paul Douglas received his B.A. in English at the University of Connecticut where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.  He received an M.A. from the University of Oregon and a PhD in American Studies from George Washington University. Dr. Douglas was a Fulbright Senior Lecturer in Turkey and has been an exchange professor in China. He is the coordinator of the American Studies concentration and teaches courses in American Studies, Folklore, and the History of the Fairy Tale. Dr. Douglas has published articles in the National Geographic, the Smithsonian Journal of History, the College English Association Journal and the International Journal of the Book in such areas as American steamboat inventors, American communes, Baltimore’s painted window screens, contemporary manifestations of fairy tales, and the Parisian publisher Charles Carrington.  Dr. Douglas has recently published Voyage of the Country of Liberty, a travel narrative describing California in the 1870s, and is preparing another book manuscript for spring, 2008, publication.  The topic of this is the town planning, architecture and artifacts of a 19th century commune, The Harmony Society.
