SAT English at Towson

About Our Program

Making the Reading/Writing Connection

Reading: Students will develop their skills in reading comprehension,  skimming, scanning, making inferences, and identifying main ideas and supporting details. In addition, they will work on increasing their vocabulary and reading speed.

Writing: Students will use readings to develop research skills such as paraphrasing, summarizing, and note taking. Students will also review their writings with the instructor to work on specific grammar problems.

Speaking and Presentations

Students will learn to prepare and give oral presentations on various topics. They will also organize a debate by choosing teams, doing research, and presenting their positions according to formal rules of debate.

Listening and Note-taking

Students will listen to academic lectures, both live and taped, and practice taking concise and effective notes.

Test Preparation (SAT/TOEFL)

Students will learn test-taking strategies and practice answering actual test questions. The Reading and Listening sections of the SEAT program will enhance student test-taking abilities; however, this part of the program will focus on specific SAT/TOEFL skills.

Applying to College Workshop

Students will use a hands-on approach to select a college, write an essay, complete an application, and apply for financial aid.
