Center for Student Diversity
Student Diversity Council
Purpose
The
purpose of the Student Diversity Council (SDC) is to build
relationships among student leaders, encourage cultural
groups to collaborate, enhance the student leadership
experience, improve programs, and build community.
In
addition, the SDC is designed to inform the Assistant Vice
President (AVP) for Diversity and the university administration
of the needs of under-represented groups, the challenges
currently facing these groups, and the programming and resources
necessary to enhance the intellectual and social life of
under-represented students.
SDC members meet with the AVP on a
regular basis. The group currently comprises representatives from
the African Diaspora
Club, Caribbean Student Association, Filipino Student
Association, Hillel, International Student Association, Latin
American Student Organization, Muslim Student Association, South
Asia Student Association, the Black Student Union, Queer Student
Union, and the IMPACT Movement. An organization president
may serve on SDC or nominate the vice president or an exec member of
that organization to represent the group on the council.
Goals
- To encourage
minority student and underserved group involvement and
collaboration in student organizations.
- To enhance the
leadership experience for group leaders.
- To coordinate
a calendar of events and activities among student groups.
- To support and
promote unity among all students on campus.
- To address the
needs of under-represented groups.
