Fundraising Tips for Registered Dancers
Now that you've
signed up to be a dancer, it is time to do some fundraising.
All proceeds go to the Johns
Hopkins Children's Center.
How can you raise funds for TigerTHON 2006? All funds are raised prior to the dance marathon through a variety of means:
Canning
- Solicit donations using canisters at busy intersections, sporting events, and in front of businesses with the proper authorization.
- Canisters, posters, donation boxes, and other materials may be signed out in the Office of Student Activities during regular business hours (usually 8 am until 6 pm).
- All persons who choose to solicit for TigerTHON 2006 are encouraged to display their school's identity (i.e. t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts) as well as any item that
advertises Blowing Wishes for the Kids.
- While canning, all persons are an extension of the University. You are expected to present yourself in a professional manner and abide by all state and local laws within the area you are soliciting. Any fines or legal problems acquired from canning illegally will be the responsibility of the individual or organization. TheTigerTHON
Planning Committee will not take any responsibility for illegal activity.
- Any use of alcohol or illegal substances while canning or traveling to canning destinations is prohibited.
- You must be courteous to all people, even if they do not donate.
- Information about Committee Canning Drives will be sent via e-mail to all registered dancers.
Letter Writing
Sending letters to your family and friends is an excellent way to raise money. Four letters sent out, $25 sent back from each person, that's your goal of a minimum of $100! Easy enough?
A sample letter is available here in
Microsoft Word
Corporate Sponsorships
While asking different corporations for donations is strongly encouraged, you MUST FIRST run EACH sponsor by the
Planning Committee.
Bake Sales
Have a bake sale to raise money. Go to the University Union's Information Desk to reserve a table on campus.
Car Washes
Have a car wash to raise money.
Sell Candy
People love buying candy on campus. Extra money can go to the Johns Hopkins
Children's Center.
Other Ideas
Any other ideas that you have are great! If you have any questions, please contact the
Planning Committee at 410-704-4427.
PLEASE REMEMBER:
- The sooner you start your fundraising, the more money you can raise.
- Get everyone you know involved! There is something for everyone to do!
- Always stay motivated! Enthusiasm is contagious!! If you show people how excited you are about
TigerTHON, they will want to join too!!
- While there ARE prizes for the groups and individuals who raise the most money, remember that everything is going to The
John's Hopkins Children Center. Please refrain from disturbing another group or individual's fundraising activities. All problems should be directed to the
TigerTHON Planning Committee.
- All checks should be made out to Towson University. All money that is raised (cash or checks) may be dropped off in the Office of Student Activities (UU, 217) at anytime. Put the money in a sealed envelope clearly marked with your name, dancer number, your team's name (if applicable), and the amount enclosed.
