Dance Department Accreditation
Towson University is accredited by the Middle States
Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, the Maryland State Department
of Education, The National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education
(NCATE), and the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The Dance
Department is a charter accredited institutional member of the National
Association of Schools of Dance (NASD), the only accrediting agency for
dance in higher education. The dance teacher certification program for grades
K-12 is accredited by NCATE and the National Association of State Directors
of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTE).
Dance Department Facilities
Large, well equipped dance studios, classrooms, and dance faculty offices are located in the Center for the Arts. Main stage dance concert performances are held in the renovated 700-seat theatre in Stephen Hall Theatre. More intimate dance concert performances are held in the Dance Studio Theatre in the Center for the Arts. Additional performing space in the Center for the Arts Center includes the 500-seat Concert Hall and the 350-seat Main Stage. An extensive collection of dance books, periodicals, references and videotapes is available in the Albert S. Cook Library, and is supplemented by the Dance Department's collection of slides and films.
