The Towson University Dance Company, founded in 1982, produces quality dance concerts, educates diverse audiences, and provides professional-level performing experiences to its company members.
The Dance Company holds auditions twice a year. Company members include students in the professional-level BFA Dance Program as well as TU students in other programs who are exemplary dancers.
The Dance Company's fall and spring performance season showcases new works by Towson University faculty and renowned guest artists, such as Mark Taylor, Alonso King, Larry Keigwin, Troy Powell, David Parsons, Mark Dendy and Gus Solomons.
The company performs historical modern and ballet masterpieces. Modern masterpieces include works by Alvin Ailey, Bill T. Jones, Doris Humphrey, and Martha Graham. Ballet masterpieces comprise sections from Don Quixote, La Bayadere, Swan Lake and Giselle, among others.
Further, the Towson University Dance Company serves the community through biannual School Matinees, a performance/lecture demonstration for the Baltimore region K-12 students, and tailors its concerts to interested presenters.

Beginning its 42nd season, the Towson University Dance Company (TUDC) is delighted to present a Special School Matinee performance for students grades K-12. Every year, over 700 people attend this free school event. The fall 2011 matinee, entitled “Passion,” highlights the company’s versatility and virtuosity. First, the audience witnesses excerpts from Act II of the Romantic ballet Giselle. Long white tutus fill the stage as dancers portray the ethereal world of the “Wilis.” Next, Runqiao Du (former principal with Washington Ballet), Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell (former principal with Alvin Ailey American Dance Center), and Vincent Thomas (artistic director of VTDance) collaborate to create Legends: Volume II, a high energy work highlighting the golden jazz era.
The total performance time will be no longer than one hour and will take place at Stephens Hall Theater on York Road. Admission is FREE! Groups must provide their own transportation. Metered lots are available for cars and vans. Bus parking is not available, but busses may unload students at the theater entrance.
