Towson Department of Dance audition and admission information

ADMISSION TO THE DANCE MAJOR

To major in dance, you must be accepted by both Towson University and the Department of Dance. You must also successfully complete the Foundational First Year Program with a B average in 28 dance units. You apply directly to the university for academic admission. Applications may be obtained from the Admissions Office.

Admission to Towson University

You must also submit a separate Dance Audition Application to the Department of Dance and participate in a performance audition. This audition determines your acceptance into the First Year Foundations courses and your eligibility for a scholarship. Students are encouraged to audition early to ensure consideration for talent scholarships.

Dance Audition Application (DOC)

Please print and mail the Dance Audition Application form to the following address: Department of Dance, Towson University, 8000 York Road, Towson, MD 21252. You must also include a recent 8"x10" head shot photograph with your application. Applications are considered incomplete unless all of the above are submitted.

Dance Audition Information

Students interested in majoring in dance at Towson University participate in an audition as part of the application process. Students are encouraged to audition early to ensure consideration of a talent scholarship. Auditions will be held on the following dates in the Towson University Center for the Arts, Room 1003. Auditions begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and end at approximately 2 p.m. Dancers should come prepared with appropriate dance clothing, including shoes. Experienced dancers may also bring pointe shoes.

Audition Day Information

The audition includes the following:

Students participate in ballet barre, ballet and optional point combinations.
Students participate in modern dance center work, modern dance and improvisation combinations. Following this, the faculty will deliberate.
Selected students will have a 5-10 minute interview with a dance faculty member. Directions to the Center for the Arts

From I-95 (northbound and southbound): Take the Baltimore Beltway I-695 west (toward Towson). Take exit 25, Charles Street. Proceed 1.7 miles. Turn left on Towsontown Boulevard and proceed to the first stoplight on Osler Drive. The Center for the Arts is located on the left, at the corner of Osler Drive and Cross Campus Drive.
