Minutes
February 14, 2005
Professor Buchbinder called
the fourth meeting of the University Curriculum Committee to order at 3:30 p.m.
in the Towson Room of Cook Library. The
minutes of the December 13th meeting were approved as distributed.
Professor Paul Rardin was present to explain the two Music proposals. The first was a change in the B.S. in Music
Education which adds the Enhancing Literacy in the Music Classroom course to
meet state certification requirements. This
course has been approved by the Committee on Course Approvals and will be
listed as MUED 401.
The second Music proposal was
for the Bachelor of Music: Composition
Concentration which deletes 2 courses and adds Composition Lessons and
Recording Techniques 1. The net change
adds one credit bringing the total number of credits in this major to 120.
Professor King moved and
Professor Sarhangi seconded the motion to approve
both proposals. The motion carried
unanimously.
The next item on the agenda was
the proposal to add sample proposals to the Committee’s web page as good
examples to be followed when making submissions. The Family Studies proposal will be added as
an example of a major program change and Music will be contacted about adding
their recent proposal as an example of a simple change. It was also suggested that the total credit
count for programs be highlighted as well as information about Gen Eds and what categories the Gen Eds
count for. Professor Buchbinder will
work with Professor Marzotto on putting the examples on the web.
For our next meeting in
March, Professor Buchbinder will invite the Chairs of the College Curriculum
Committees (and any members of those Committees who want to attend). The meeting is intended to be informational
and review much of the material that is on our web pages. Mike O’Pecko will
be invited to speak about the Gen Ed Committee and Gail Gasparich will explain
the workings of the Subcommittee on Course Approvals.
The Master’s Program in
Women’s Studies change was received as an informational item but
will be sent to the Graduate Studies Committee.
The meeting adjourned at 4:15
p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Eleanore O. Hofstetter, Secretary
