Piece in the Midst of La Tormenta is my first composition. I fit each instrument into different imaginary roles. The piece develops through by the inter-play of each character. These characters are created to stir the solo clarinet, whose aim is to achieve a point of rest and tranquility. Piece in the Midst of La Tormenta can be looked at as a snapshot taken from a situation that is taking place. The piece begins and ends with the use of a snare shot that helps to exemplify this idea. I have written a short poem that goes together with this composition.

There are times when you walk in solitude.
There are time when you wish for a storm. 
I have learned that we are not alone.
Though life is not always a pleasant ride home.
He has promised me peace in the midst of the storm.
