Fantasy for Flute
Dennis Karp, Flute; Larissa Karp, Piano
Fantasy for Flute was written in 1995 while I was taking my first composition lessons with Chris Forbes.  In these lessons, we would discuss a basic element of theory.  Then, I would be assigned to write a short piece in a specific form that illustrated whatever element of theory we discussed.  This piece was intended to illustrate secondary dominants, and was written in an A-A-B-A form.

In this piece, you can here some of the early beginnings for some of my later works, particularly "As Yet Unknown. . ."
Five years later, I'm still particularly fond of this piece.  While it lacks some of the sophistication of my more recent works, there is something straight forward and pristine in it that I find very attractive.

This piece was selected for the Maryland Music Teacher's Association Composer's Circle in 1996.  Also, my thanks to Dennis and Larissa Karp who came in at 8:00 in the morning on a Tuesday to record for me.
