for Mezzo-Soprano, Baritone, Piano, and Percussion. (17') A combination of spoken text, recitative, and song underscored by the piano, this piece is based on the story of the Nightingale. Now, the tale is set in a West African village, and tells the story of a little mute girl, Nahtingweleh. |

The percussion ensemble afforded me the opportunity to experiment with West African rhythmic elements, and explore shifting timbre. And expanded harmonic structure roots the piece. These harmonies function as rhythmic events and also provide melodic motives and motion. |

for SSAATTBB Choir (5') A brief, but rich poem becomes the source for an entire fantasy journey through the realm of dreams. Reveling through landscapes, the piece finally culminates with the first lucid presentation of the full text. |
