Contrast Exercise is the first piece that I completed at Towson and it was first played in the Spring Composer’s Concert of 2003. The piece was realized entirely with the computer program Reason, which acts a virtual rack of synthesizers, samplers, and other units and is capable of complete automation. Conceptually, I wanted to create a soundscape that had many different timbres and colors, but was still coherent through the repitition of some sounds and samples, creating unity in a work meant to exhibit diversity.
