All 8 E-board members were present
18 people attended
· President, Brian J Ward
made the following announcements:
· Today at the table we had a petition from Moveon.org to stop the
escalation of the war in Iraq
· The Maryland Federation of College Democrats said we are one of
the
most active chapters of College Democrats in Maryland
· To continue our impressive activism, we are going to work with
the
grassroots organization Health Care for All
Vice President, Paul Day announced:
· Maryland Healthcare for All canvassing will take place Saturday
February 24 from 11-3
o Similar to work we did with the Tracy Miller campaign
o Going from door to door with our cell phones to ask the
residents to
call the State Senator to support House Bill 288/Senate Bill 207 that
will help provide health care to Marylanders
(www.healthcareforall.com)
o 80% of the public in MD supports it
o Canvassing will be happening on weekends throughout the semester
· Adopt-a-Campus is on the 28th
o We will meet in the lobby of the union
Treasurer, Bryon Burzynki announced:
· There will be a bake sale on March 8th from 10-4 in the first
floor
lobby of the Union
o The set-up will be a dessert buffet for $5
· Concession stands will happen on April 14th and April 28th
Director of Media Relations, Sean Lawlor announced:
· The Towson Progressive is now out!
· The next edition will be available on March 6th
· General members are encouraged to submit their work
· The deadline for submissions is March 2nd
Director of Events, Lauren McDade announced:
· Donkeyfest was cancelled and we will not being having one this
semester
· March 14th we are showing the movie The Ground Truth in Lith 200
at
7:30
· Annapolis trip is planned for March 31st
Director of Campaigns, Matt Bohle announced:
· In a few weeks we will have background information of the
presidential candidates
Director of Political Organizing, Alicia Schuler announced:
· Tabling will take place tomorrow in the Union from 10-4
· We are going to have Student Ambassadors for other progressive
organizations which include: QSU, BSU, The Greens and Towson Energy
Activists
· Street team will flyer this semester in residence halls and
buildings
· Our discussion dealt with the recent Non-binding Resolutions
about
the war in Iraq
o Some members thought the resolution was not a serious proposal
or a
substantial position
o Democrats need to make a binding decision
· Discussion of a petition that supports bringing home the members
of
the Maryland National Guard
o We decided to gather more information before taking action on
this
petition
Other announcements:
· NY Times lunch discussions are taking place this semester
· Richard Burke of the NY Times is speaking at Towson on March 7th
The meeting adjourned at 6pm. The next
meeting is scheduled for
February 27, 2007.
