Minutes from General Meeting, Tuesday, October 30, 2007

All 4 Committee members were present
17 people attended

-Co-Organizer, Heather Kangas began the meeting by having all of the members introduce themselves and thanknig everyone that came to our community service event, ZooBoo. 

-Secretary, Rachel Alexander passed around the sign-in sheet.

-Co-Organizer, Sean Lawlor then reminded the group that two members of the Catonsville Nine will be speaking on campus. These are remarkable people so everyone should try to take time to see them. He also announced that on December 8th there will be a presidential forum. The Baltimore County Democratic Club and our organization will both be helping with this event. It will be in the Susquehanna terrace, and more information will come as we get into December. Finally, he reminded the group that we will have a table at the Human Rights Awareness Day, which has been moved to the 28th of November. He asked the group about what issues they would like to focus on. Many people expressed their concern about focus on labor and on local issues that area happening right in Baltimore. it was decided that each Committee will pick an area of concern. All three issues will be represented on the table.

-Kassia Schodroski gave some more information about the event. She said each organization will need a slideshow and we can show a movie if we wish. She also said there will be bands playing and organizations are free to fundraise. There will be many activities, including a Privilege Walk.

-Greg Mazur then spoke about a labor dispute that involve the Unions Unite and Here. The unions are involved with hotel workers and are trying to defeat the tyranny of certain hotel owners.

-Sean Lawlor then announced that our treasurer will be leaving for a semester abroad in the Spring, so we will be electing a new treasurer soon so that they can shadow him before he leaves, and then take over in the Spring. If anyone is interested in the position they should feel free to contact either Sean Lawlor or Heather Kangas.

The organization then divided into Committees.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 pm. The next one is scheduled for November 6, 2007.
