Karl Fugelso, Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education, since the summer has published articles in The Year's Work in Medievalism, Source, The Virgil Encyclopedia, and a Festschrift for William Calin.

Dance Department

Department of Dance

Susan Mann, Dance, welcomed Tim Veach, the Artistic Director and Founder of Columbus Dance Theatre (CDT) and its school, to give a series of lectures and presentations on October 2010 for “Surviving and Thriving Together” residency.

EMF

Department of Electronic Media and Film

Michael Angelella, Electronic Media and Film, put the finishing touches on EMF 387 Developing a Screenplay and launched it last spring.
• He produced the Bone Crusher documentary with director Mike Fountain about father and son coal miners; it was accepted into a dozen film festivals, and won 5 film festival awards. He wrote and/or co-wrote eight documentaries for the Smithsonian Channel.

Phil Davis, Electronic Media and Film, made a hand drawn animation loop for the show Meowpolis, that opened at the Whole Gallery in Baltimore. The show featured paintings, sculpture, video and performances, all cat-themed.

Mass Communication

Department of Mass Communication and Communication Studies

Amy Bree Becker, Mass Communication and Communication Studies, appeared on WBAL 1090 AM's Afternoon News Journal on Oct. 29 and Nov. 1 to talk about the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear in DC. Her research is on public opinion, political entertainment, and political participation. To listen to the show.

Stacy Spaulding, Mass Communication and Communication Studies, presented As if the Sixties Never Happened: Baltimore's last minstrel show, a cop and the First Amendment at the AEJMC conference in Denver in August.
• She was invited to write a profile of TU regent Sen. Francis X. Kelly for a book on the history of the Tuerk House in Baltimore.
• MCCS held the 9th Annual High School Journalism Day. Over 120 students from a dozen Maryland high schools attended the day-long workshops and award luncheon. The event was coordinated by Professor Stacy Spaulding, and the student editors of The Towerlight led 12 workshops. Video summaries of each of the workshops are online at MarylandJournalism.com.

Richard E. Vatz, Mass Communication and Communication Studies, was on the Marc Steiner Radio show on WEAA 88.9 FM to discuss the Midterm election.

Music Department

Department of Music

Dave Ballou, Music, invited Internationally acclaimed percussionist and composer Gerald Cleaver to present master classes, workshops and concerts during his week long residency December 4th to 8th.

Theatre Arts Department

Robyn's Hayes AwardRobyn Quick, Theatre Arts, conceived and developed the New Russian Drama Project (Spring 2010) to help bring recent dramatic writing from Russia to an American audience through the translation, study and production of plays by a new generation of Russian playwrights. The Theatre Arts Department at Towson University and the Center for International Theatre Development, partnered to create a sequence of programs to share this work with students, theatre artists, and the public.

David M. White, Theatre Arts, directed Yury Klavdiev's "I Am the Machine Gunner", at the Baltimore Theatre Project. The piece (which had a workshop production at TU December 2009) is moving to the Raue Center for the Arts in Crystal Lake, Ill. (October 2010) and then on to New Village Arts in Carlsbad, Calif. (November 2010).
