DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL

Shady Spring Elementary School is a 30-year old elementary school that services 575 students in Pre-K through grade 5. Our school draws from many diverse communities, which makes our school special. We have students with cultural ties to 12 different countries. Our student body is composed of 54% African-American, 31% White, 6% Asian, 3% Hispanic, and 6% other nationalities. Although it requires 12 buses to transport our students to our school, Shady Spring remains a hub of our school communities. We offer after-school programming onsite that includes academic interventions, enrichment, and special interest clubs. We are also fortunate to have a Police Athletic League on our school grounds. Approximately 80 of our students participate in this after-school community-based program. We are blessed to have 46 of the best educators in Baltimore County committed to academic excellence and student success at Shady Spring.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Every day is started with a proclamation from the entire school community that, "Here at Shady Spring, we expect nothing less than our personal best." Every teacher and staff member is dedicated to making Shady Spring the finest school in Baltimore County. We are deeply committed to making sure that all students are successful. Our plan to accomplish this goal includes providing the highest quality of staff development for our teachers, implementing early intervention programs, providing academic and social support to our students and their families, and making consistent efforts to build a strong home-school connection. Shady Spring is working hard and planning to become the next Baltimore County "National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence."

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Shady Spring Elementary School is to provide a quality education for all students, one that develops their content knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will enable them to reach their maximum potential as responsible, productive citizens and life-long learners. Shady Spring Elementary will be an outstanding school that is characterized by its caring community of learners where everyone plays an important role in creating an inviting and exciting learning environment. As a result, students will have the knowledge and skills necessary to participate meaningfully in a multicultural, technological, and change-oriented society.
