DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL

Liberty High School is a comprehensive high school located in southeastern Carroll County, serving the Sykesville, Eldersburg, Gamber, and Marriotsville communities. With the opening of Century High School, our student population has fallen to 1,385 students. Our faculty consists of 73 full- or part-time teachers assisted by three full-time guidance counselors, a half time specialist, and four administrators. Eight instructional assistants and a full-time nurse also serve our students during the school day. The curriculum is designed to prepare both college-bound and employment-bound students for their careers beyond high school. Specific programs for special education, at-risk, and academically talented students challenge all students at levels appropriate to their abilities.

Our School maintains a focus on high academics and student success, but also sponsors an extensive extra-curricular program including a full-complement of interscholastic athletic teams and an award-winning marching band. Although our student population has decreased over the past year, we continue to address issues that result from an overcrowded school.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

We are delighted to participate in this program to assist in the development of new teachers for the future. All of our people at Liberty benefit from the relationship of new ideas, energy and talent that comes from the people in the linkage with Towson University and Carroll County Public Schools.

MISSION STATEMENT

The faculty and staff of Liberty High School strive to teach every student the information, skills, and concepts necessary for a useful and satisfying life. We work to promote the development of honest, responsible citizens with positive self-concepts who respect the beliefs and rights of others.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COLLABORATION

It has been an excellent opportunity to watch, mentor and assist new interns in becoming competent teachers in the classroom. The interns did a terrific job in learning the community of students and staff at Liberty. Their time with students was challenging and rewarding.
