DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL

Kingsford Elementary is a communications and academic magnet school located in Prince George's County, Maryland, currently serves over 1000 students. The Communications and Academic Studies Magnet Program at Kingsford offers elementary students a strong scholastic program concentrating on effective communication skills and processes. All students in the school participate in the program. In addition to a rigorous program in basic skill areas such as reading, science, social studies, and mathematics, the program also focuses on speaking, writing, and other forms of communication. Included is the development of specific skills in public speaking, research, expository and creative writing, debate, group leadership, opinion analysis and the use of many media forms to illustrate and present information. Communication and multicultural understanding are emphasized through enriched instruction in art, interrelated physical education and music. All curricular areas focus on skill development for effective expression of ideas and information.

It is the mission of Kingsford Elementary Magnet School to prepare all students for success in life.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COLLABORATION

There are currently plans for the creation of a teacher study group.
