DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL

Hebbville is located in the southwestern section of Baltimore County. The majority of students live in single family homes, apartments, and multi-family residences. The community is considered to be an urban setting, with businesses, public transportation, and financial institutions in close proximity to the school. Hebbville serves students from preschool through fifth grade. A three-year-old program as well as prekindergarten is available to students who meet specific criteria. Three self-contained special education cluster classes meet the needs of many students in the Southwest area. An inclusion program is available for students who need a less restrictive setting. The current enrollment is 565 students.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

The faculty at Hebbville Elementary School continues to be committed to increasing student achievement by utilizing a comprehensive data collection system to monitor and foster effective instructional programming. We provide a variety of programs that include full-day kindergarten and gifted and talented programs including MESA. Before-school and summer tutorial/enrichment programs are components for increasing student achievement. Our students have access to technology instruction. Cultural/musical programs are also an integral part of Hebbville. We strive to provide every opportunity for maximum student achievement and to recognize and stimulate special talents in all students. We continue to maintain high expectations for students to demonstrate satisfactory performance in each area of the Maryland School Performance Program. Our PTA takes an active part in providing support for our instructional program. Our teacher mentor program has also made a significant impact on our instructional program and the success of our new teachers.

MISSION STATEMENT

We at Hebbville believe that all students can learn and be successful. We strive to provide every opportunity for maximum student achievement and to recognize and stimulate special talents in all students. Our major goal is to prepare students to become responsible citizens and life-long learners. Hebbville Elementary School fosters trust, caring, and mutual respect among students, staff members, and parents/guardians as we work toward student success. We provide students with a supportive learning environment that develops self-esteem, self-motivation, and a sense of responsibility. We believe that home, school, and community share the responsibility for promoting common values, supporting a nurturing environment, and providing positive role models. We are working together by building on the strengths of our students, teachers, parents/guardians, and the community.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COLLABORATION

As we begin the second semester of our first year as a member of a professional development school partnership between Towson and Baltimore, we continue to look forward to a very positive joint and collaborative effort for all of the participants. This partnership provides an opportunity for teacher candidates to practice their craft under the supervision of mentor teachers. The Hebbville mentor teachers are excited to be able to share their expertise with the teacher candidates from Towson University as well as learn from the Towson students. The professional development school partnership is a model that supports continuous improvement of teaching and learning. This PDS partnership is becoming a positive component of our program as we work to increase student achievement. We look forward to continuing this partnership with Towson for the 2002-2003 school year.
