Towson Contacts: DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL The Campfield Early Childhood Learning & Development Center is located between the Villa Nova and Lochearn communities of Northwest Baltimore County. Campfield was designed to offer comprehensive educational services to young children and their families and to alleviate overcrowding in several neighborhood elementary schools. The center serves children from three through five years of age from the following home school communities: Bedford, Milbrook, Randallstown, Scotts Branch and Wellwood International. Eligibility for our half-day three and four year old program is based on the results of a screening process. Children who exhibit the greatest needs in language are given priority in class placement. The full-day kingergarten sessions are open to all children residing in the Bedford, Milbrook and Randallstown communities. The Three-year old Programs meet half-day sessions Monday-Thursday. The Pre-kindergarten Program holds half-day sessions Monday through Friday. There are also special education programs on each age level. Other services available, as needed, include speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, guidance counseling, ESOL, nursing care and social services. The following programs are also housed within the Campfield building and provide services to the school community: HIPPY (Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngsters), PAT (Parents As Teachers) and POP (Parent Observation Program). The Northwest Resources Center at Campfield provides an opportunity for teachers and parents to create instructional materials for classroom and home use. Campfield has been awarded a Judith P. Hoyer Early Child Care and Education Center Grant. As a result of the Judy Grant, we have enhanced existing programs and have expanded to include new partners that will provide direct services to children, services to families, and professional development. MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL We are very proud of our students and their achievements. We are committed to providing a rich and meaningful learning environment for all children that enter the Campfield Early Learning Center. It is our goal to ensure that our students will meet and exceed the state and county standards and be ready to meet the challenging and rigorous curriculum in first grade. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Campfield Early Childhood Learning & Development Center is to ensure that all students acquire the academic, physical, social, and emotional foundations necessary to become responsible citizens and lifelong learners. The Center recognizes the individual learning potential of each child. We believe that linking home, school, and community is essential to children's optimal learning. We believe that all children can be successful when given the opportunity for positive daily experiences through the development of intrinsic motivation and self-esteem in a safe and nurturing environment. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COLLABORATION The Towson Professional Development School Project has been a valuable asset for our school community. The partnership between Towson University and Campfield ECLD Center has provided a collaborative model of linking Early Childhood and Special Education Programs and interns with teachers and staff at Campfield. The Towson students are actively engaged in field experiences, classroom observations, mini-lectures and presentations coordinated by the joint efforts of the PDS Teams. Our teachers have had opportunities to participate in staff development designed for the needs of our school and take courses offered by Towson University. Our parents have received support and instruction to enhance their students' literacy skills via Family Reading Night and workshops.
