DR. MACHAN TO GIVE FREE LECTURE TO TOWSON

BALTIMORE, Maryland – Tibor R. Machan, Ph.D. will be coming to speak to students of Towson University on Monday, November 6th.  This event is being sponsored by the College Libertarians of Towson, the Towson University Philosophy Forum, and the Office of Student Activities.

Dr. Machan’s lecture will deal with libertarian philosophy and its historical roots in classical liberalism.  This event is to be held in room 306 of the University Union, and will begin at 5:30 PM.  After the lecture, there will be a question-and-answer session.  Free food and beverage will also be served.

Dr. Machan is Professor Emeritus, Department of Philosophy, Auburn University, Alabama, and holds the R. C. Hoiles Endowed Chair in Business Ethics and Free Enterprise at the Argyros School of Business & Economics, Chapman University.  He is research fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, CA, and Advisor on Libertarian Issues for Freedom Communications, Inc., the family owned media company in Irvine, CA.

Dr. Machan was smuggled out from Hungary in 1953, when he was 14-years old.  After immigrating to the United States in 1956, he served in the U.S. Air Force, and then earned B.A. (Claremont McKenna College), M.A. (New York University), and Ph.D. (University of California at Santa Barbara) degrees in philosophy.

The College Libertarians of Towson, which tends to be classified as fiscally-conservative and socially-liberal, meet on Thursdays at 6:30 PM in room 306 of the University Union.  The Towson University Philosophy Forum meets on Thursdays at 5:00 PM in room 305 of Linthicum Hall.  The Office of Student Activities is located in room 217 of the University Union.
