Money, Banking, and the Federal Reserve

We will be showing a documentary made by the Ludwig von Mises Institute called Money, Banking, and the Federal Reserve with the Towson University Economic Society later in the semester.  Following the screening, Dr. Howard Baetjer, a professor of economics here at Towson University, will speak to us, answering any questions audience members may have about inflation, the Federal Reserve, the gold standard, free banking, or whatever other related topic you or he may be interested in discussing.

Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers

On Tuesday, October 23rd, the College Libertarians and the College Democrats will be co-hosting a screening of the 2006 documentary, Iraq for Sale.  We will be holding this screening in place of our regular meeting, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in Lecture Hall 238.

Everyone on campus is invited to come, so invite your friends!  The movie will be free, as will the drink and snacks, and we will have a guest speaker as well: veteran Geoffrey Millard.

Iraq for Sale is a documentary made by Robert Greenwald about the anti-free market economic policies being employed by the U.S. government in the pursuit of its war in Iraq.  Specifically, it looks at various neo-mercantilist businesses (e.g. Halliburton), as well as the government’s policy of doling out no-bid contracts and destructive cost-plus allocations which have the effect of removing the incentive for private companies to work efficiently and control expenses.

Meetings are now on Tuesdays

This semester, we have moved our meetings from Thursday evenings to Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.  Meetings will now be held in room 238 of Lecture Hall.  Lecture hall is that odd building in the middle of campus under which students typically walk when going from the Union to the Beach.  To get to room 238, the easiest way is to walk up the ugly concrete ramp, which is out front of Linthicum Hall, to the right.

We apologize for any inconvenience.
