Minutes — Thursday, 21 September 20066:35 — Meeting commences. 6:40 — Election is held to see who will replace Lauren Bodie as Membership Chair. Alex Peak, former President, is the only candidate. Six of the seven present members vote for Peak, and Peak votes against himself. Peak is officially elected. 6:41 — Paul Kelly, President, discusses the Tibor R. Machan lecture scheduled for November 6. Machan is a libertarian philosopher who is coming to Towson University to speak at the College Libertarians of Towson’s (hereinafter CLT) request. 6:41 — Kelly discusses the raffle/auction being planned. Peak confirms that he has met with the Student Activities office and gotten an email address of the person currently in charge of Daily Digest. We plan to do advertising for any business that donates to our raffle/auction, but we need to make sure first that doing so does not violate any Towson University codes, hence our need to talk with the person in charge of Daily Digest. 6:44 — Kelly discusses the events happening at the Cato Institute, and of our advisor Dr. Pomykala’s suggestion that we take a group trip to the institute. 6:44 — Kelly discusses the gun rights event the CLT is planning in association with the Towson College Republicans (hereinafter TCR). The CLT voted on which pro-gun documentary it would prefer to buy, that being Innocents Betrayed, which was made by the Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership. We will continue to discuss plans with the TCR. 6:50 — Kelly discusses the Constitution Week Demonstration planned by Brian Bittner of the Towson Campus Greens. The demonstration will be a held on Friday, September 22 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and will be in opposition to the abuses by our government against the Constitution. 6:51 — Kelly discusses our plans to show the film V for Vendetta this semester. He has placed a room-request with Events & Conference Services. 6:51 — Kelly discusses our plans to do some tabling under the Lecture Hall on Wednesday, September 27, from 12:30 PM to 7:00 PM. We will be handing our copies of the World’s Smallest Political Quiz, as well as advertisements for our group. In addition to this, we will be selling food to raise money for our group. Alex Peak, Jonny Howe, Kristen Miller, and Vice President Sarah Sichina confirmed that they would all be there at different points in the day. 6:56 — The CLT members voted on a number of amendments to the group’s constitution as proposed by Peak. All but two amendments pass. 7:08 — Peak discusses plans for improvements to the CLT website. 7:15 — General group discussion commences. Discussion ranges from whether or not to privatize the United States Postal Service (hereinafter USPS), whether or not to remove the USPS’s monopoly on first class mail, the history of private mail delivery starting with Lysander Spooner, governmental regulations on food such as Maryland’s law which prohibits private businesses from selling meat cooked rare or medium-rare, and the regulations on sheep-ownership. 7:40 — Meeting adjourns. |
