Minutes — Wednesday, 15 March 2006 College Libertarians of Towson Meeting March 15, 2006 6:30 PM Those present were Dmitri, Jason, Alex, Daniel, Ricky, Sarah S, and myself. We opened the meeting with cold pizza, and the reading of the mail by Alex. Alex opened with news of the speaker from Auburn we would like to have come lecture, Tibor R. Machan. We discussed dates and travel costs, and it was generally agreed upon that we would have him come next semester when he was lecturing in Washington DC and already close by. Alex said that he would email him to see what his requirements would be, and to see if it were possible to make other arrangements. Next up for discussion was the SGA Organizational Roundtable to be held March 31st in Susquehanna. Daniel and Sarah volunteered to be present. Daniel and Sarah were also kind enough to volunteer to attend the seminar for new executive boards on SGA/OSA policy held on April 28th. This was another Friday and decidedly inconvenient for the rest of the group. We then discussed the impending debate to be held on April 5th, tentatively from 4-6pm. The topics agreed upon were Environment/Energy, which Daniel and Alex volunteered for, Patriot Act and Wiretaps, which Ricky was on like gangbusters. Sarah agreed to help and Paul was assigned backup by proxy. The last was Social Security/Taxes, which Dmitri and I volunteered to handle. The changes in format were announced consisting of a three minute opening speech instead of the previous two-minute speeches. The rebuttal is still one minute. This was followed by a very brief lecture on the background of the privatization efforts of Social Security in Great Britain, and the lack of success they have met, given by myself. We talked about the Libertarian Convention April 1st at Squire’s but it was doubtful who all would attend, given work schedules, save Alex, who was definitely going. We discussed the Voter Mobilization event shortly and some things were passed around. Alex announced that he would not be seeking the Presidency next year. The meeting ended with the agreement that we would not meet on the 22nd, and a discussion about the United Arab Emirates port deal having gone bad. The general feeling in the room at that time was frustration. And then a gentle hum of chatter was heard echoing through the hallways only to be muffled, then heard no more as the last door closed. But I heard them exclaim as I drove out of sight “Free speech to all and who’s got a light?” Respectfully submitted, Lauren Bodie, Treasurer and Membership Chair |
