College Libertarians of Towson Meeting 03/08/2006 6:30 pm

Special Harry Browne Session

5 members present, minute taker not wearing a watch.

Opened meeting with passing out articles on Harry Browne and some selected writings.

Russell's disappearance was noted for the record.

Club business resumed with going through the mail that was in the box.

Alex discussed Rally for Marriage Equality to be held March 14th 3:30-5:30 pm in the Potomac Lounge.

The next topic of discussion was the Cannabis Cup “High Times” Festival and the possibility of holding a contest to send one lucky member over to the Netherlands.

Paul related an interesting anecdote about the non-standard tastes of his floormate’s girlfriend.

We then discussed the Voter Mobilization effort tomorrow, the 9th of March, where I will be meeting a representative to discuss the study they are doing.  Discussed internship opportunities with the group and got Alex’s information.

A brief synopsis of the differences between the Austrian School and the Vienna school of Economics was given in response to the lecture given by Dr. Baetjer earlier that day.

Discussed the Libertarian convention held on April 1st 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Squire’s restaurant.  Alex agreed to email that information to the group.

Alex introduced his idea for the company ‘Necrofun’ as an attempt to recycle some of our often overlooked resources.

We then discussed the next debate we will be having with the other political groups on campus on national issues.  12 were submitted, of which we were to pick three.  The group decided it was best to have a few standbys, so five were selected.  Among them were Wiretaps and the Patriot Act (a privacy issue), Eminent Domain, Social Security, and two others that don't come to mind.

Alex gave us information on the meeting being held the next day, the 9th, with the other political groups to decide on the three we will debate.

Russell, our membership chair, was then impeached a two thirds majority of those present, two abstentions. I (Lauren), was then elected by the same two-thirds majority, to replace him as Membership Chair and Treasurer.

We decided not to amend our constitution to make submitted minutes mandatory, although it was agreed that they would be done regularly whenever possible.

We devoted the rest of the meeting to the memory of Harry Browne.  Alex read a few selections by Lew Rockwell, and some pieces written by Mr. Browne.

The meeting was then concluded with a reiteration of which group members were doing what this week and also with the decision that there would not be a part two of the Harry Browne meeting the following week.

Minutes respectfully submitted,

Lauren Bodie
