TUPD: Abuse of powerThe Towerlight 26 January 2006 “Drop down and give me 20!” That was a command several students heard while tailgating outside Johnny Unitas Stadium before the Homecoming football game in October. After “breaking the seal,” students emerging from the woods surrounding Lot 14 were given an ultimatum: finish some push-ups or face a citation. Faced with a fine, or worse, many of the urinators got face down on the ground and proceeded to complete the push-ups amidst onlookers counting and cheering them on. While the police took the law into their own hands, students weren’t deterred. Many said they just went further down into the woods where police couldn’t see them. Due, in part, to the push-up propositions, there were no citations issued and only one arrest made. |
