Bachelor of Technical and  Professional Studies in Allied Health (BTPS)

The Allied Health Program is designed to give practicing health care professionals the opportunity to advance their careers by expanding their skills in the health care marketplace.   The program builds on their existing clinical backgrounds through advanced learning in health care administration and management, organization and funding, ethical and professional issues, and research findings that affect best practice.  Graduates are better positioned for promotions, movement into related positions, or job expansion.

OUR MISSION

The Towson University Allied Health Program is designed to advance the comprehensive performance of allied health providers in the dynamic health care environment . We address the healthcare workforce shortage by preparing allied health providers to enhance their professional roles through evidence-based critical thinking, culturally competent patient care, effective communication and the development of leadership skills.

PROGRAM GOALS

The Allied Health program is designed to prepare students to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the social, economic and political forces that impact eh availability and quality of healthcare at the individual, regional, and national levels.
  • Effectively use scientific inquiry and evidence based practice through current technology to support and guide health care delivery.
  • Develop leadership skills through advanced reasoning and communication that promote the expansion of discipline specific clinical roles.
  • Enhance the use of ethically grounded and culturally competent practices in the administration and delivery of health services.
  • Acquire and utilize focused knowledge in administration/ management, science/ professional preparation, education, health promotion, respiratory therapy, and/ or family studies, that contributes to professional development and a commitment to life-long learning.

  7. In addition to completing the Allied Health major, many students are able to pursue a minor in another area of their choosing.
  8. Towson University is a state-supported institution with reasonable tuition and fees. Various forms of financial assistance are available.
  9. Towson University's College of Health Professions, where the program is houses, is one of the largest producers of bachelor's and master's degree graduates in the health professions in Maryland and in the Mid-Atlantic states.
  10. Students may select their own focus area to pursue specific subjects of interest to them.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Students who are interested in applying to the Allied Health Program need a completed A.A.S. degree from an accredited college. The degree should be one of the specified eligible disciplines for the Allied Health Program.  Please contact the Program Director for additional information if you have a health-related associate’s degree that is not listed.  Under limited circumstances, other associate’s degree programs may be acceptable.
