Recreational Opportunities
The Towson Center for Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders

community to promote meaningful leisure activity, support social
connections, and facilitate links in the community.
Please monitor this page for updates to these recreational
opportunities. If

The Continuing
the Challenge Together: A Personalized Wellness Program
will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00pm – 7:30pm
beginning September 29, 2009 to November 19, 2009.
The program will focus on social and interactive
skills while supporting participants to achieve
personalized fitness goals.
Skilled mentors and personal trainers will
provide individualized instruction and guidance while
the fitness programs will address flexibility, strength,
muscular endurance and cardiovascular activities.
The program provides individualized attention in
a small group setting to optimize opportunities for
social skill rehearsal, such as peer teaching, problem
solving, and effective communication.

Challenge Course:
The Towson University Campus Recreation Services has developed
an Adventure Pursuits Program with a Challenge Course on campus
to provide an outlet for experiential education that supports
team building experiences, creative problem solving, and
improved communication skills. Through its location on a
university campus, the program affords the participants the
opportunity for accessibility to peer mentors as well as to the
university environment as a whole.
In collaboration with this program, the Center is planning a
recreational activity that pairs an adult with autism with a
Towson University student during ‘Challenge Course’ activities.
These pairs would meet before the beginning of the
recreation program in order to get to know each other and to
become familiar with the activities on the Challenge course.
The activity would run for three hours, once a week, for 4-6
weeks. It is available for all levels of ability.
This program was run Summer 2008, Fall 2008 and Spring 2009.
Notice of future program dates will be posted.
