IMPORTANT BUSX 460 INFORMATION
BEGINNING FALL 2012, REGISTRATION PROCESSES HAVE CHANGED
The processes for enrolling in Professional Experience (BUSX 460) HAVE CHANGED. Please note the following changes:
- You will NOT reserve a seat in BUSX 460;
- You will enroll in BUSX 460 for the FALL 2012 semester at the same time you are eligible to enroll in all other courses (please check your appointment time online);
- Your enrollment in the course is contingent upon approval of your internship (deadline to have fall internships approved is August 8, 2012). If you do not have an internship approved by this date, you will have 24 hours before being removed from the course. This means that your internship needs to be approved, not turned in by August 8. Please note the difference;
- Pre-requisites for the course remain the same;
- Attendance of a mandatory information session;
- Successful completion of BUSX 301, FIN 331, MNGT 361 and MKTG 341;
- Senior standing (at least 90 credits);
- 2.0 GPA.
Special note: You will see on your PeopleSoft account that there is a new milestone labeled as BUSX 460-Mandatory Information Session. All students who attended an information session in the fall 2011 or spring 2012 semester will be put into the system to reflect successful completion of this milestone. If you attended an information session prior to the fall 2011 semester, you must email me PRIOR to your appointment time to make arrangements to show successful completion of this pre-requisite.
Programs in the College of Business and Economics prepare graduates to assume professional roles in a variety of settings. CBE students are strongly encouraged to complete more than one internship experience before graduation. There are two ways for students to receive college credit for an internship:
Enroll in the BUSX 460 course in conjunction with internship
Towson University’s College of Business and Economics is one of only a few business schools in the nation to offer a separate unit designed to enhance business performance in the college and in the workplace. In the Business Excellence program, students studying Accounting, Business Administration or e-Business are required to take BUSX 460 – Professional Experience.
Students are required to intern as part of the course, which focuses on a successful transition between the last college semester and the first day of professional work. Through self-assessment, students develop a portfolio that demonstrates their knowledge, skills and attitudes (KSAs) as well as their commitment to lifelong career development.
Enroll in a 497 course in conjunction with internship
The 497 course is used as an elective for Business Administration and e-Business majors and as credit toward the 150-hour CPA requirement for Accounting majors. Students cannot enroll in a 497 course without departmental consent. A minimum of 120 hours must be completed in order to gain practical experience in the application of the business concepts. . Students must meet with their advisers for more information about how to receive college credit for an internship.
