124: Intermediate Backpacking (2) Special Permit is Required Review of basic backpacking skills as well as an introduction to intermediate backpacking techniques. The skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for trail hiking, off trail exploring and below-tree line camping in the backcountry are covered. Leave No Trace ethics, minimum impact living, and walking in the natural environment are major priorities. Field experiences are required. |

KNES 305: Outdoor Education: Philosophy
and Methods (3)
Examination of the rationale and basic structure
of outdoor education programs.
An investigation of effective teaching techniques and procedures for outdoor
education. Field experiences are required (students may have to provide
their own transportation and equipment). Utilizes an interdisciplinary approach
and is team taught.
