Coffeehouse, Comedy, Concerts, Cultural, Daytime, Lectures, Public Relations, Road Trips, and Special Events
CAB Coffeehouse provides an outlet for local music, giving students an exciting and laid-back atmosphere to show off their creative talents. Contrasting with big, nationwide concerts, this committee strives to reach out to the local music in the area. Whether you’re in a band, a solo musician, or you just like to play and sing for fun, these events are right for you. Poetry and readings are great, too!
Welcoming any style of music from folk to rock, metal to R&B, Coffeehouse wants everyone to express themselves. With events like Open Mic Nights, Karaoke Nights, Rock Shows, and Acoustic Unplugged Nights, there’s something for everyone. And the best part of all, ALL COFFEEHOUSE EVENTS ARE FREE!!
CAB Comedy has three main goals: bring quality comedy acts to Towson University, make people laugh, and only have two main goals! People who wish to join CAB Comedy should come prepared to laugh, have their ideas listened to, and work with an awesome group of people. Prior events include Tim Meadows, VH1's Best Week Ever, and Reno 911!.
CAB hosts at least one big concert per semester, held either at the Towson Center Arena or on Burdick Field. We try to pick big-name national acts that will interest a wide group of students. Past concerts have included artists such as Gym Class Heroes, Outkast, Luke Bryan, 311, All American Rejects, Eric Church, The Black Eyed Peas, David Cook, Jadakiss, and The Roots.
CAB also hosts frequent, smaller shows in Paws. These shows have featured local bands playing music genres including hardcore, go-go, alt-rock, and country. U-and-coming national acts also come to Towson to play in a small, intimate venue. Past performers include Gavin DeGraw, Michael Tolcher, Matt Nathanson, the Graham Colton Band, and more!
Besides regular concerts, CAB books artists for the two biggest shows on campus: Homecoming and Tigerfest!
The purposes of CAB’s Cultural Programs are to spread cultural awareness among students and to educate students on different backgrounds, heritages, and lifestyles.
Past events include AIDS Memorial Quilt, the Urban Art Exhibit, the Asian Culture Fair, Irish Jam, and Women of Break!
Those students interested in this program area can help by expressing their ideas in planning creative events as well as suggesting unique ways to promote them.
It's a great chance to get your ideas heard and to see Towson change into what YOU want it to be!!
Daytime programs provide a great way for commuter students to get involved with CAB! Other programs have included professional massages during finals week, musicians like Mercy Creek and The Humbuckers performing during the lunch hour, balloon artists and caricaturists, stuff-a tiger, and pumpkin carving.
Lectures is responsible for bringing guest speakers to our campus. Past speakers have included cast members from seasons of The Real World, Jaleel White, who portrayed Steve Urkel on 'Family Matters, Gideon Yago from MTV News, and Dr. Ben Carson, famous pediatric neurosurgeon. We would love your input for other speakers to bring to campus!
Got a creative side? Interested in marketing or advertising? Then this is the programming area for you! All of our Chairs and General Members have the chance to participate in making flyers, advertise programs on campus, and promote events both at TU and in the surrounding area. From designing bulletin boards and posters, to brainstorming the best way to use our advertising money, this program area offers something for everyone!
CAB Road Trips' main focus is to provide activities outside of campus that are fun and affordable. All of our trips include roundtrip transportation by shuttle or coach bus, as well as a popular attraction, for a small fee.
Some of our most recent and upcoming trips include New York City, Six Flags America, Georgetown, a Ski Weekend, Dinner theaters, Philadelphia, and so much more!
Students interested in this program area are responsible for brainstorming ideas as well as promoting around campus. General members are a huge aspect of this program area because it's one of the newest CAB areas. Those students involved are given the opportunity to set standards for future Road Trips to come!
CAB Special Events are just that - great programs that happen only once or twice a year at Towson. Because these aren't weekly events, Special Events tend to be larger, campus-wide programs that offer involvement opportunities for many students. Tigerfest, LaborStay Weekend, Texas Hold 'Em tournament, Bingo Night, Family Weekend, and TU After Hours are all Special Events that you can be involved with through CAB!
