                                                                                                                Undergraduate Research Opportunities

At Towson, we offer several opportunities for Undergraduate Research.  One way to get your feet wet is by doing a summer project.  It's a great beginning for a future Biologist!

For information on paid summer research internships at other universities and research institutes, check out the National Science Foundation REU program site. Deadlines are nearing for applications so if you are interested check today!

Another way to see what's out there for undergrads is to keep an eye on this site.  When an opportunity arises, it will be posted here in the green box below.  Remember, aside from being challenging and fun, gaining research experience as an undergraduate is one way to put yourself above the competition.  Go ahead, impress yourself.

Extensive information on undergraduate research opportunities at TU and off-campus can be found in the Biology Major's Handbook.

We select undergraduates in diverse disciplines, including engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, ecology and marine and environmental science.  Details and application guidance at our web site: http://www.mdsg.umd.edu/REU

We are particularly interested in supporting talented students from institutions where access to marine science and to research projects is limited and who are from underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).  Since 1989, NSF has supported bringing students to conduct individual research projects with a scientist-mentor at either Chesapeake Biological Lab or Horn Point Lab of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science.

College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, University of Delaware - Summer 2011 REU (11/5/2010)

Supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation's Division of Ocean Sciences, this REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) program supports ten undergraduate students to conduct research in marine science.  We especially encourage applications from members of minority groups underrepresented in science.

The program will run for 10 weeks (June 6 - August 12). Please go to our website http://www.ceoe.udel.edu/academics/undergraduate/summer/index.shtml to find out more about the program. Student support includes a $5,000 stipend, campus housing, and travel assistance.  The application form and instructions for submitting supporting documents are available at https://www.ceoe.udel.edu/academics/undergraduate/summer/summerInternApplication.aspx.

Interns will work with faculty and research staff in a graduate student atmosphere on a research topic in chemical, physical, or biological oceanography, marine biology, or marine geology.

This internship program will take place at the University of Delaware's Hugh R. Sharp campus in the resort community of Lewes, located on the shores of the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean near Cape Henlopen State Park.
