Who can join?

Any student at Towson University may be a part of the TIGER Pep Band; this includes non-music majors as well as those students in the music program. All you just need is to be an instrumentalist with a lot of "Tiger Pride." This year, the pep band can have up to 60 participants. Students who were members of the marching band during the fall semester have first priority for a position in the pep band.

What does the pep band wear?

Members of the TIGER Pep Band are required to wear their casual band uniform to all performances:

   - The TIGER Band Polo Shirt (the band tee shirt is NOT to be substituted).
   - Khaki pants (no jeans).
   - Dark dress shoes and socks (no sneakers).
   - If you need to wear long sleeves to stay warm, a black long sleeve shirt can be worn UNDER the polo shirt.
   - No hats are allowed.

What does it cost?

There is no fee associated with membership in the pep band. Aside from khaki's, members must have a lyre and flip folder for their music. These items are usually less than $10 if you don't already have them.

What's the attendance policy?

Attendance requirements for the TIGER Pep Band are very different from the attendance requirements of the TU Marching Band. First of all, we will not rehearse during the time listed in the spring semester course catalog (Thursday evenings). We will have an early “call time” before games in order to rehearse. Your “call time” will be different for each game. This information is posted on the schedule on the website.

Members will sign up for a MINIMUM of 50% of the games along with one of the two tournaments. Any member who is student teaching in the spring is exempt from the tournaments. The director will then assign members to games based on availability, seniority, and instrumentation. If a member is sick or cannot attend an assigned game, it is that member’s responsibility to secure a “sub” from the sub list. The sub list will be posted in the “member’s only” part of the website. Any substitutions made to your schedule must be submitted to Mr. Miliauskas in writing. Failure to have a substitution approved in advance or arranged at all will result in non-payment for that game and jeopardize the member’s participation in the pep band.

Attendance will be taken at the call time and dismissal. A tardy will result in half pay for a game. Excessive tardies, an unexcused absence, or lack of substitute can result in total loss of stipend and possibly dismissal from the organization.

Members are responsible for set up and take down of any equipment and supplies (i.e. drum set). Students should arrive with ample time to accomplish these tasks prior to the “call time”.

Any unusual or extenuating circumstances regarding attendance should be brought to the attention of the director immediately. Regardless, members are responsible to secure a sub.

In case of inclement weather, members should check their email and the pep band website concerning the status of our performance at that days game.

When does the band rehearse?

Even though the course catalog lists the pep band as rehearsing Thursday evenings, we will never meet at this time! Call times for each game have been posted on the schedule. See the pep band schedule for details.

I don't own my own instrument, does the school have an instrument I can use?

Towson University has a wide range of instruments that band members can use throughout the Pep Band season. If you will need to use school instrument other than a percussion instrument or a sousaphone, please contact Mr. Miliauskas.
