On this page of the website, we will be compiling information important to the parents of our band members. If
anyone has a suggestion or additional information to be included, please email the webmaster, Gary Williams,
at williams.gary@gmail.com.
Friends and Family Performance
On Sunday, August 26th, our last band camp rehearsal will take place inside Johnny Unitas Stadium from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, our week will culminate with a presentation and performance for family and friends. This will be a great informative session on how the Towson TIGER Marching Band comes together. Make sure to invite your parents, family, and friends to come out and enjoy our band camp accomplishments.
Complimentary Football Game Tickets
Every member of the TU TIGER Marching Band is given two complimentary admission tickets for every home football game. At the Wednesday band rehearsal preceding a home football weekend, band members can submit two names for complimentary admission. On game day, to retrieve these tickets, parents or friends should report to the "marching band will call" table outside the home-side entrance of Johnny Unitas Stadium. For the first Thursday night home game this 2007 season, names for complimentary tickets will need to be submitted on Monday, August 27th.
Seating Placement for Complimentary Tickets
A few years ago, there was a desire for band parents with complimentary tickets to sit near the band. The trade off to this proximity is a 5 - 10 yard line view of the game and, of course, the band's field performances. I'm always open to input that I can share with the ticket office. Email suggestions to the band director at jmiliauskas@towson.edu.
Season Parking Passes for Football Games
The athletic department is going to make season parking passes for all home football games available in the near future. For those parents who attend every game, this will be a savings compared to paying for each individual game. When information becomes available, it will be posted here.
Band Trailers and Truck
We have just been given a one-time budget to purchase two trailers and trucks for the TUMB. If anyone has any experience with these types of vehicles or understands the license restrictions to certain weights of cargo, please contact Gary Williams at williams.gary@gmail.com.
Pants Pinning
On the mornings of Friday, August 17th and Monday, August 20th, this year's band members will be sized for uniforms. If anyone is close by and has any type of expertise with pinning pants for correct length, please contact Sarah Hopkins at shopki5@towson.edu. We do send the pants to a tailor to be hemmed, unless someone would be super excited to tackle this job...
Flag Sewing
We are excited to have one of the most accomplished university color guards on the east coast! With that honor comes the need for flags designed for each musical production. Some of you may have experienced this with your student's high school marching band. If you or someone you know has had experience sewing flags, please contact Steve Keiser, our color guard instructor, at kevets2000@yahoo.com.
Cookouts
In years past, the band service fraternity - Kappa Kappa Psi - has organized the TUMB pre-game cookouts. This was a doable task when the band had 60 - 80 members. However, now that we're going to have about 180 members (and growing), the task is just too large for students. Here is a general outline of the process:
- I get cash from the university during the week to cover all costs of the food.
- Friday evening, the fraternity brothers have been shopping at Sam's Club for the food. This has gotten easier with the ability to place the order ahead of time (online) and simply go pick up the food.
- We have one refrigerator here in the Center for the Arts where we have been storing the food. As the band grows, we're prepared to purchase a second fridge or a freezer. We also have cabinet space to store other items.
- On game day, it's a matter of preparing the food and serving about 200 people. We have been using a large Bar-B-Que grill owned by one of our parents. Unfortunately, that student has graduated from the band. Dr. Rothlisberger (Director of Bands) has brought his grill in the past. The university does have a grill by the Auburn House (close to the stadium) and I believe we have "unofficially" used this grill in the past as well. ;-) I am open to all options to how we can secure a large grill. Rent? Purchase? Please offer your suggestions.
- We do have some tables to use - the university will provide these for each Saturday with some advance notice.
- I am prepared to purchase a canopy/tarp/tent for those days when it may be drizzling.
There are four home football games this season when we will need our pre-game cookout:
Saturday, September 22nd, Towson vs. Delaware
Saturday, October 6th, Towson vs. Richmond
Saturday, October 13th, Towson vs. Hofstra
Saturday, November 10th, Towson vs. Villanova
The first order of business is to find a way to organize the process. If you are interested in helping, please email Greg Jackson at tigerband@towson.edu.
